Don't just take people's word for the quality of steel structure painting—look at the paint film itself.
In the painting industry, laypeople look at color, but experts look at three things: the condition of the paint film, adhesion, and the absence of missed spots.
With traditional manual painting, the result depends entirely on the technician's touch. A shaky hand leads to excessive thickness and sagging; a slight deviation results in a coat that is too thin, exposing the base material. Even the same technician might spray evenly in the morning but produce rough work in the afternoon when fatigued. Different technicians have different styles, leading to significant quality variations between batches.
Automated painting lines rely on systems, not human touch, to ensure quality.
As components enter the spray booth, 3D scanning instantly identifies their shape, dimensions, and position. Based on this data, the computer directs the upper and lower spray heads—controlling a total of 12 spray guns—to adjust angles and paint output in real-time. Webs, flanges, grooves, and corners are all fully covered with no missed spots. A single pass suffices; there is no need to flip the component or perform touch-up spraying.
What are the results like? On-site photos tell the story clearly:
The paint film on the inner side of the I-beam web is uniform; there are no missed spots at the flange roots; and the curved surfaces of round tubes show rich, consistent color. Every component emerges with a complete, flawless coating.
Every single piece is identical
—consistent color and a smooth surface.
Even more critical is
adhesion.
To meet tight deadlines, manual painting often involves applying a new coat before the previous one has fully dried, resulting in weak inter-layer bonding and a tendency to peel or flake over time. Automated lines use a "spray-then-bake" process; each layer cures fully, ensuring strong adhesion that withstands the elements.
